Of all of these items tomatillo is by far the biggest mover and is actually one of the items we started with. As time has gone by we have, at the request of our customers, added other items to the line. We grow the tomatillo year-round while some of these other items are imported. Cubanelle Pepper Also known as Italian Frying peppers. Cubanelle peppers are large and blocky. They are light green in appearance and they mature red. The thin walls of this pepper make it an excellent choice for frying. This pepper is not hot.
Fresh Tomatillo
The best American name for this vegetable would probably be "Mexican green tomato", but they actually taste nothing like regular tomatoes, In fact, the tomatillo is not a tomato at all. The tomatillo has a tart, lemony flavor that is enhance when cooked. (especially roasted)and is an excellent base for salsas. While salsa (salsa verde) is the most popular way to enjoy tomatillo, they can be used in other ways. Tomatillos contain high amounts of vitamin A&C. Tomatillos are our #1 sales item! Pasta Para Durito A delicious snack from Mexico. These are a type of dried pasta that tastes alot like pork skins when fried. Drop these in hot oil and fry for a few seconds until golden brown. Then add salt and hot sauce to taste.
Tamarindo Beans
A Latin specialty! Beneath the hard outer shell is a sticky pulp that is both sweet and sour. These can be eaten raw, used to make a flavorful tea, or made into a syrup and used in chutneys, curries,sauces etc. To prepare for use in recipes: Remove hard shell. In a bowl soak in water for 10 minutes. Rub tamarind to dissolve in water. Filter through a sieve and sqeeze solids. Discard solids.
